History repeats its self. Long time rulers just are not good for society. That is one good thing about democracy...it usually stipulates a limit of term in office. It's time for Egypt to consider at least that point of democracy when reforming takes place. I hope they can work it out with out a lot of turmoil.

The choice is probably between bad and worse, bad being the Mubarak regime, and worse being the Muslim Brotherhood. If fair elections were to be held sometime this year, the Muslim Brotherhood would very likely win, thus producing another toothache Muslim state. We should probably hope that Mubarak holds on at least until a smooth transition can be worked out.
Yeah, I just read about the Muslim Brotherhood group. You are right...that could be scarey if they influence elections. I really hope it won't be so. I wish there was a way the world could promote a clean, fair democracy for them with out looking like we are medeling. It looks like Jordon has some problems starting up now too....it's like a firestorm has started in the middle east.
I am no fan at all of the Muslim Brotherhood, but they seem to be taking a very respectful and careful stance.
It is important to make a distinction: illiberal democracies can be just as bad as totalitarian regimes. True liberty that precedes or accompanies democracy is the key, but it doesn't always happen that way. For a democracy to provide all is benefits, it must be a liberal democracy. (I am not talking liberal as in liberal vs conservative, Dems vs Republicans)
