VP Choice

I think it is important to understand that most of the blame of the condition of our country lies on the Congress in power and not the executive branch. Although the president sets policies, he is still bound by the laws set by congress and they have to enact any bill for him to sign.

With that said, I think who they each select for VP will be very telling of how they will set policy. Who will be their advisors. Lets see how that swings the votes.

Back to my first thought...Energy example. The governor of Alaska wants to open Anwar for drilling. So do the locals and people of Alaska by an overwhelming margin, so do most Americans at this point. Bush administration wants to drill in Anwar yet the Democratically controlled congress (Obama included) will not allow this. I thought they were to do the will of the people and not the will of the party.

I agree about the Democrats blocking drilling, but McCain was in with the Democrats on that one. He is such a mixed bag. I also dislike when politicians say, "Drilling won't produce immediate relief at the pump. It will take until 2015 for drilling to affect the price at the pump." Well, if that's the case, get of your duff and get the process going!

Agreed, McCain was in with the democrats on this one but times and situations change. I give him credit for seeing that at $4 a gallon it is time to reevaluate this issue. I do not mind if politicians change their stance on issues if they can give a logical explanation as to why. But not to change just to be bullish or to change and not admit you changed is what irks me.

Did you guys know that if we started focusing of nucleur energy to run out grid line that we would have enough oil to last us until we fixed or build refineries to produce gas oil. The problem really lies on not enough refineries to convert the oil that we do have. We have more oil in several states, such as Colorado, Utah to name a few than they have in most of the Middle East conbined.

I think it is crazy to use our food resource ie corn for alternate fuel. There is a shortage of Alphafa Hay which is use to feed livestock because the Gov. is paying farmers to plant corn to be used for alternative fuel.

Refining shortage is a key to the problem. You are right in that aspect. I would hope that if we can get to producing more of all kinds of energy we would throw in a refinery or two along with it...good point Isabelle.
