Irked with McCain antics

I'm irked that McCain trots out Palin and parades her around with foreign  bigwigs and does not allow her to take questions.  So pictures are supposed to make us believe that she is growing in foreign affairs savvy, that she suddenly knows a bunch, and yet she is not allowed to be heard speaking to them, not allowed to debrief in public and share with the American people her new-found diplomatic qualities?   It is an antic as ridiculous as  John Kerry dawning hunting gear and strolling through the pheasant fields of Iowa.  I loathed that and I loath this.

So McCain decides that he now must look presidential and rush back to Washington even if he must miss the first debate?  Suddenly two days before the weekend and two days before the debate,  he is going to go back to the Washington machine, to help right the ship.  He of such economic acumen!  He knows that it will decided with or without him, that he will have no effect, that he will make it back for the debate.  But!  He will be able to say that he puts country before campaign.  Another antic.

His handlers are dreaming all this up.  I personally think that he is a better man than all this.
Wish he would take charge and show it.  Not such a maverick now!   It was what I disliked greatly about Kerry.   I voted for him because I felt that I had no other choice, voting for Bush was not possible for me.

Oh yeah, and I know he was challenged to come to Washington by Dem's. He certainly chose his moment.

Isn't Obama going back to Washington this week too? Aren't they both going back together as a bipartisan measure. I don't think it is just McCain going back. I understand they both got an invite from the President himself to go back on Thursday to talk with them both and get their ideas and buy-in on a solution. Hopefully the three of them can convince congress of the bipartisan need to come up with something soon.

So far, it appears that Obama is balking, but he can't let it appear as if he is following McCain's lead.

All this maneuvering is a game of chess, but you a right. This is a move by McCain to stop his slide in the polls, but my gut tells me that there is slim chance it will work. His best option was to go through with the debate and then assess his position.

Yes they will all be in Washington, but talk of 'suspending the campaign', 'calling off the debate' are his antics.

First off, He never asked to call off the debate...just postpone it. He is more that willing to debate Obama, especially on the subject of national security which was to be the topic of the debate.

I see no reason to call off the debate. I am sure preparation for the debates take a lot of money and effort on the part of those that sponsor it. I think McCain should show for it regardless of the crisis in Washington.

McCain is being paid to be a United States Senetor not a Presidential campaigner. He's doing his duty. Too bad Osama "Biden" Laden (I mean Obama) can't own up to his duty to stop campaigning long enough to do what he is paid to do.

It is an antic regardless of whether it is postponed or cancelled. It caught everyone by surprise Republicans included.

All three senators invovled and Governor Palin are indeed paid to be on the job elsewhere. That McCain suddenly, heroically decides to go back to his job after over a year of compromised presence due to campaigning is hardly a sign that he is above the others in this matter.

If he were leading in the polls and if Obama were reeling, he would not jeopardize such advantage by running back to Washington in the name of some principle. He would stay on the trail and go for the jugular, that is his true nature. This is first and foremost a ploy to look presidential.

Charles Gibson did a long interview with her. Tonight Katie Couric has a full televised interview with her. Fully open on all topics and Palin not knowing in advance the questions to be asked. She has done more tv interviews than Biden since his acceptance of the VP slot on the Dem. side.

Regarding Palin meeting with world leaders without the press, as I recall Obama did exactly the same thing a couple of months ago. It was just a photo op for him with no questions either.

Dean, Perfect answer! YOU ARE SPOT ON!!!!!

Obama traveled to meet leaders, spoke with them at length, to foreign public at length. Sure it was photo opts, but much more.

I still don't see the essential difference between the Palin closed door meetings with foreign leaders and the Obama closed door meetings with foreign leaders.

The difference...Obama is running for PRESIDENT and Palin is running for VP. Why is everyone always comparing Obama to Palin? Running for different offices with the "potential" that Palin could be President. I think everyone needs to compare Palin with Biden and McCain with Obama. So what if Palin meets with Foriegn leaders. She wasn't brought into the ticket to be a foriegn policy expert.

And furthermore, both Obama and McCain should be in Washington doing their jobs because quite honestly, I think the majority of Americans have pretty much made up their minds. Those that haven't, won't make up their minds until a couple of days before the election anyway. Everything they do on the campaign trail now are jsut words and mumbo jumbo. We all know who they are, what each stands for, and so get on with it.
