I went shopping in Aachen Germany Christmas market this past week.

Cathedral of Aachen and the City Hall, the oldest part of which, the Granus Tower, is said to date from the days of Charlemagne. This is the Cathedral where Charlamagne is burried. He is a native of Germany and Aachen was the capital home base for him. He was born in the 742.

We Wortham's have Charlemagne in our ancestral lineage, but so do a lot of people. Charlemagne got around.
Great pictures and this must have been fun to go there. I love to go places like this. I still have no clue who this Charlamagne guy is or what he was famous for.
I am very glad you went Teresa. I always wanted to go but never had the chance. I am sure that it was fun. M
Haven't you heard people say that we have our geneology done all the way back to Charlamagne? Maybe dad can explain the significance to this......Dad???
We have a pedigree chart that show this but it is not verified. Go on Google and see that he was a famous emperor that had many wives and concubines. Dad
I read about him, and he is famous for much more than just a lot of wives and concubines! He helped move forward the idea of free public education, and Christianism, but could still condem people to death and go to mass in the same day and not blink an eye. It sounds like he has quite a colorful history.
I know Teresa. There is even a French song that talks about him inventing school in this part of the world. He was a great emperor at that time with a very large empire. All children learn about him in school over here. He is really famous. If someone wants to know more, Google it and you will be surprised. M
