The $357,000 Photo Op

Bureaucracy: It's a wonderful thing, except that NY City was terrorized again.

Louis Caldera 'resigned' over his stupidity. That means that he was fired. In the world of ever advancing photoshop capabilities, this was a ridiculous waste of money and incredibly insensitive.

It got all the media coverage it warranted from the 'liberal left' media.

How could the media NOT carry the story? The 747 flying low over NYC was seen by everybody. My post is not a dig at any political party. Obama was justly upset over the incident. My dig is at the bureaucracy that pervades big government and the occasional fiascoes it creates. This could happen under any administration.

I never had a problem with the photo op. It was just stupidity that they did not advertise for days ahead of time to notify the public of the situation so that there would not be fear. I feel bad for Caldera but that happens when you don't think ahead. And, he did resign but it was a forced resignation for sure regardless of what others say.

Like Deric, I do not mind the photo op but it could have been publicly announced so as to alert everyone. It could have almost been a real patriotic moment exploited by any administration. I think the concept is a good idea but to reduce cost, it could have easily been done on a regularly scheduled maintenance flight. As I write this I guess not because of security. If it were publicized then security would be breached and any nut with a flare gun or powerful rifle on top a building or any common housewife with a RPG (rocket propelled grenade) or SAM (Surface to air missle) could have taken pot shots at it. Conclusion....Patriotic photo op good idea but not in today's world of wackos.

While I understand Brian's concern for public safety, fly overs happen on a weekly basis at sporting events around the world. Every terrorist knows that at any NASCAR event or sporting event there will be a military fly over. It is just tradition and if you know when the start time for the game or event will be and you have the aforementioned weapons, then the attack can occur. I say go ahead with the fly over...just announce it well ahead of time.

Would Deric say the same thing if he were the pilot of Air Force One. Besides...shooting down AF1 would be quite the claim to fame for a terrorist. But good point on the fly over at sporting events.
