Zelaya returned to power

Manuel Zelaya will return as the president of Honduras due to American diplomatic pressure. This singular diplomatic triumph of President Obama's first year in office will restore to power the lawfully deposed Honduran thug and friend of Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega and Hugh Chavez. It is contrary to the national interest of the United States and a setback for the supporters of democracy. It is also a defeat for the rule of law. The Honduran Supreme Court remains steadfast in its opinion that Zelaya was attempting to remove term limits on the President and install himself in dictator-like presidency similar to Chavez. Once Zelaya actually regains power, I suspect he will be looking for revenge against his enemies. Don't be surprised to see news of arrests and assassinations of opposition leaders. This is a boneheaded position for the US to take IMHO.

Prisoners to the front of the line?

Apparently, prisoners and inmates are being moved to the front of the line in many states to get the N1H1 vaccination. Even in front of high risk, honorable tax paying citizens.
Should inmates get H1N1 shots before the general population? I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts.

Pilots engaged in conversation

Just wanting to know Brian's perspective on this situation. How often does this happen?....not the over shooting their destination, but pilots being so involved in their conversation that they tune everything else out, including the radio traffic trying to hail them. Did they literally turn the radios off? Or did they just tune their ear out? If the plain were on auto pilot, wouldn't it have told them that it was approaching it's destination? How did they miss that? Very curious indeed.

Olbermann tells an Apostle of God he should shut the ______ up!

Yikes! I wouldn't want to be in Olbermanns shoes on his judgment day. Noticed too that he conviently left the name of "Jesus Christ" out of the title of our church. He is angry guy. I never liked him...and I have even less respect for him now. He is high on my list of "Worst People". I hate how he twists the truth...and demonizes people. But don't all the talk show pundits do that on both sides of the spectrum. That is why we just have to be level headed and not take everything they all dish out as fact...because most of it is demonized trash talk about the people on the other side of the line.

Deficit Hits $1.4 Trillion

The Obama administration said Friday the deficit for the fiscal year just ended was $1.4 trillion, the largest relative to the size of the economy since 1945. The administration has a huge challenge to reduce the deficit while considering further steps to stimulate the economy. This is why it is critical that the health insurance reform be revenue neutral. The problem is that it is obvious to all that it won't be. It is entitlement spending at a time that we can least afford it. Note that if any version of the bill currently under consideration in congress gets passed, taxation starts immediately, but the program itself is slated to start in 2013 (after Obama's presumed re-election). It's a running head start, but it won't survive the ballooning deficit. Also, there are rumors of a second stimulus bill. The Democrats are quietly desperate about the economy. GB's fault or not GB's fault, it's a well-known phenomenon that that party in power gets drubbed at the polls if the economy is bad.

Punishing smokers and the obese with higher rates

I watched a recent news report and read a few articles, (I have attached some bloggers talk on it as well) and was appauled initially by the idea that some think it is fair to charge higher insurance rates to the obese and to smokers. (They already have to pay higher LIFE insurance rates.) Then I thought about it and decided, well, it certainly might be a motivating factor to help them "fix" their issues. But then, I thought, no that is ludicris. It certainly might motivate some, but it won't "fix" any ones issues, because smokers and the obese most often have other undlying issues that cause their habits to smoke or over eat. Those kinds of things just don't go away because they will be charged more money. I consider my self in the obese category....and I work on it every day of my life....and it doesn't just go away, and it won't just go away if someone charges me more money. I am paying for weight watchers on-line every month of my own free will...and although I have lost some...and I know how to lose, it's not easy, and some months I use the tool I am paying for strictly as a maintenance program not to gain more...because dang! It's hard and my Wortham heavey weight genes aren't helping me any! Then after reading more, I realize that if you charge the smokers and obese higher rates...why wouldn't you charge drug users, and the sexually promiscuos, because they all chose to do risky behaviors that affect their health and health care costs too. Where do you draw the line before you actually start discriminating groups of people for their choices? And...isn't smoking and obesity and doing drugs and sexually promiscuity all pre-existing conditions? Isn't that something they are trying to do a way with so every one can have coverage? If so...the notion of charging higher rates, contradicts that notion. I vote NO on charging higher rates for higher risk populations. I do believe that it is discriminatory.

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Holy cow! It looks like the Nobel Peace Prize selection committee has jumped on the Obama Love Train! What on earth? What peace deal did he broker? What wall did he have torn down, what terrorist organization did he shake hands with for peace, which countries has he convinced they don't need to produce Nulcear weapon producing facilities? Am I missing something here? How did they over look President Reagan back in his time for tearing down the wall helping to end the cold war, and decide that President Obama has done more than he? The committee said they chose him because he has set the tone for peace and hope for the future....crimany. How many other very worthy, hard working nominees have done that and have been doing that for much longer than he? I wish I could be supportive on this one, but I think this was a giant stretch.

Is the fix in?

Speaking of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the announcement of the location will be made tomorrow. This will be as much suspense as any Chicagoan will have in relation to an election. Or maybe not, perhaps all the suspense is fake. After all, Chicago is a candidate in this election, and in Chicago, elections are not particularly suspenseful. The way it works is that, first you pick the winner, then you have the election. As the saying goes, "Vote early, Vote often (even if you are dead)." President Obama learned his politics in Chicago, and he certainly learned them well enough that he wouldn’t have flown all the way to Denmark to lose an election. Could Obama already know the outcome, and so he flew to Denmark to make a show. And lo and behold! The Olympics wind up in Chicago! Oh, the wonder of Obama magic!
