In case you haven't heard Mexico's President Calderon said that he does not object to the US putting National Guardsmen on the boarder with Mexico as long as they do not arrest Mexicans trying to cross the border into the US!
Have you ever heard such nonsense? What are they supposed to do? Give them a cool Daisani and a voucher for a free hotel stay at the nearest hotel?
He went on to say, "They have a commitment to uphold the law on the American side and not to use the National Guard for immigration purposes or deal with immigration issues."
Three things....1) Who cares whether he objects or does not object to how we use our National Guard! It is our National Guard not his! The day we seek permission to station our National Guard units on our own land is the day we loose our sovereignty.
2) Upholding legal immigration is the law so the second statment is mute! As he should be.
and finally,
3) He is an idiot!

Apparently the Obama administration is not going to let the National Guard stop any illegal immigrants. All they can do is look on and pass info to Border Patrol. So "up to 1200" soldiers is hardly a drop in the bucket and is merely a token acknowledgment that this is a looser issue for Washington Democrats, most of whom have not even read the law. (70%+ Americans support the Arizona law).
Does he mind if we arrest other nationalities that cross the borders, like Yemines, Somalies, Pakastanes, or known terrorists in general? Because they are coming through the Mexican border too!
This issue is most certainly a loosing one for either party. The Washington Republicans failed miserably in this domain and have been/are currently heavily criticized from within their own party. They fear not being able to attract a quickly growing Latino vote and cower in consequence.
Caldron admitted freely that Mexico has a double standard; they arrest freely Central Americans migrating north to Mexico. Why does he then say such things? Is he that stupid and hypocritical? Of course not. He is a politician just like our Dems and Repubs who knows full well who elects him: Mexicans. He has to say what he said. Don't be so harsh on him. He is not an idiot, but he is a politician who acts and reacts much like many if not most of ours.
Finally, Brian made the same mistake that I used to make for years. Nick corrected me finally so that I would not continue to make the mistake in front of those whom I don't know and who might judge me for it. Mute vs moot.
Moot, as in a moot point. Mute as in deaf and mute (unable to speak).
Beyond that, I am still deciding what I think of the Arizona law: it is a difficult one for me because I am both a civil libertarian and a citizen who worries about migration.
