Boise State Joins the MWC!

I am days behind in my work and my project manager is all over my case, but I had to post this.

After several days of stating (lying?) that the MWC will remain unchanged, Commissioner Craig Thompson announced that BSU has accepted an invitation to join the MWC next year. I was in a funk for several days because I was hoping for the invite and we were told it wasn't going to happen. Now I am ecstatic! This will make MWC even more exciting and fun to watch. BSU's run of easy conference championships will come to an end. Now BSU will need to work extra hard to be on top. The downside is that it is more unlikely that any MWC team will have a shot at the BCS championship in football.

Not so. It is appearing more and more likely that the Big 12 will disappear. Colorado bolted tot he PAC-10, Texas, Texas A & M, Oklahoma are all considering bolting to the PAC-10 also making it a super 16 conference. Nebraska has bolted to the Big 10. That might make the case for Kansas and Kansas State to join the MWC which would make us a nicer conference in football and basketball. What a coup if we could bring in Kansas basketball into our conference! If all of that happens, the MWC could snatch up the Big-12 automatic BCS bid. The next two weeks are pivitol as teams bolt from the Big 12. Let's wait and see.

Yes so, in it's current state.
But as you say, if other major universities are added, then maybe there is a chance.
However, I think a 12-team conference is too big. A 10-team conference is just right for scheduling and there is more money for each school.
Also, a PAC-16 with teams from Texas? What is Pacific about that? 16 teams is overkill, but the idea is to monopolize as many bowl games as possible in a single conference.

I too very happy by the invitation.
BSU will indeed lose more often, but they will improve too. It is also a mandate for them to bring more than championship football and wrestling to the table.

Things are still shaking out and it will be fun to see what finally happens. Money is driving it all (duh) and I worry about that. I enjoy college football more than the NFL precisely because the players aren't paid (well...USC comes to mind) and because nearly every town/region can have its team.

I am really excited about this football year and about college football for years to come.

Thanks for the post!

With Utah going to the PAC 10 I don't know that we gained any ground on BCS contention.

I can now say 'WE didn't (gain ground)' instead of "YOU didn't"!

BSU's basketball program is lamentable and does not have the history of Utah's. Certainly lost ground there. Same with women's gymnastics. BSU is going to have to beef up everywhere else and even then will not replace Utah fully.
