Horrors! Anti-incumbency is sweeping the nation! NOT!

Such a hubbub! Everyone is angry! They're throwing the bums out! The Tea Party Revolution is for real! The American public has awoken!

Sorry to disappoint.

Of the 324 primaries held thus far incumbents have won 317 times...and the bums have been thrown out only 7 (Utah Senator Bob Bennett being one of them). Tomorrow two more incumbents are expected to win (McCain being one of them).

There is clearly no anti-incumbent fervor...not within parties at least...not during the primaries at least. Which 'bums' the American people intend to throw out seems to be only dependent on one block of voters: independents, as usual.

I'm glad you pointed this out. I was thinking the same thing. We must be very wary of these 'narratives' that the main stream media (MSM) puts out there. Actually, it is one of my sore points with the MSM. They always seem to have an agenda (yes, including FOX, but at least FOX admits to its conservative leanings). Isn't reporting supposed to be based on fact rather than conjecture or hope of a certain outcome?

As for the anti-incumbent thing, the voters are not necessarily upset with incumbents, they are upset that government isn't working they way they expect it to, and I guarantee that the number one issue is government fiscal incontinence.

And Doug is right about the independent voter. In 2006 and 2008 they swung hard to the left, but this year they will swing hard to the right. It's enough to give us liberals and conservatives whiplash (whoops! another analogy, the spice of conversation!). I have sure enjoyed listening to VP Biden about our recovering economy and his bold predictions about the fall elections. He is very reminiscent of Baghdad Bob.

Baghdad Bob? Now we have hyperbole too!

Analogies, metaphors, hyperbole, oh my!

The retoric is there. Don't be misled by the numbers you quoted. I believe the majority believes they all need to be thrown out, just not their congressman or representative. Everyone feels their rep is doing a good job but the congress as a whole is doing a bad job. So the incumbents stay in and nothing changes.

Brian is right that we often want to throw out everyone else.

I smell pork, oink!
