I saw the map. Click on map. Reports in just today that the first cases have reached Europe. They have about 10 cases diagnosed in Spain right now. I think I'll head on over to the pharmacy and get us some masks. A lot of people travel through Brussels since we are in the center of Europe and we have lot's of international communities here. It never hurts to have them on hand.

Not just any mask works so don't waste your money. I'm searching to find the spec for what works an what doesn't. It does have to be a specific kind of mask though.

Really...can you let me know then? It looks like everyone in Mexico city is wearing a mask and I am sure they don't all have the right specs. Somthing is better than nothing wouldn't you think if it gets really bad?

Thank you Alan.

Masks- no mask can provide a perfect barrier but products that meet or exceed the NIOSH N95 standard are thought to provide good protection. The rationale behind masks is to limit airborne secretions to stop the virus from spreading from person to person.

In addition to masks though is just good hygene. They say just washing your hands greatly reduces your chances of catching any of this. Personally I think they are making a bigger deal of this than what it really is. Don't fall victim to the panicing media.

To all: do not get the flimsy blue ones that you see on tv. Get the ones that have a flexible metal strip that allows great forming to your nose and that have the chin 'cup' form. I know about these things having worn them for days on end in SLC and Denver this past summer.

Always trying to be a comedian I would say that I will use the mask endorsed by Jim Carey.

I just ordered the one's Kim suggested on-line. I should get them in a few weeks. Since we travel alot and we live in a place that is heavily traveled through...it dosnt's hurt to have them on hand.

By looking at the map, it doesn't look like any of you will be coming to Sacramento soon... Yesterday, Bank of America announced a contingency plan for their employees for this swine flu. They have never done anything like this before. I am not really worried about it, just trying to be smart about our hygiene.
