In 2006 I mentioned that I would like to invite all to GA for a three day reunion in 2009 and have mentioned it several times since. Doesn't seem like anyone is interested. Most quote finances as the inhibiting factor yet I still hear of trips to Europe, California etc. I had given 3 years notice for planning but still not takers. Anyway I am sure that with the vast majority living out west or in SLC that would be the most feasible. I think that a change in scenery though may be nice. Just let me know when and where.
Unlike some other people, I don't travel much due to financial reason. Just driving to Yellowstone last month cost us close to 2K. With 6 people it can get expensive, especially with 2 kids considered adults. I was going to go to my HS reunion but didn't due to cost. I actually would love to go to GA. I am not sure how we would pay for all of us for airfare especially now.
Somewhere out west is preferred. Travel these days is expensive whether flying or driving. Brian and the parents may easily forget that the rest of us peons can't fly off anywhere we please at a moments notice. There are fares to be paid.
Actually I have not forgotten, that is why I continue to offer people buddy passes. Especially to come visit me. Can't beat $150 round trip coast to coast. Anyway that is why I tried to give people three years notice. Shoot, even to save as little as $75 a month for three years would be $2700. Also even though we have the airfare covered we still have to pay full price for hotels and meals and a rental car each time we come out to visit so it ain't cheap for us to come there either. Anyway, I agree that the west is better for the majority and so that is where any gathering should take place. Just let us know and we will be there. We always look forward to seeing everyone.
I guess Brian is talking me going to Belgium and CA. (Funerals don't count). Hey, if the rest of you want that freedom, you need to be single with one child and have a successful career. A few of us were talking about a stress free reunion in about 3 years. An adult only cruise. It would be stress fress as far as: planning meals, cleaning, organizing activities, places for people to stay, etc. It would probably be a cruise out of CA since the majority of the family live in the west coast. For those of you who have gone on cruises, please give pro's and con's. The cost would vary by where you live and what kind of cabin you wanted, that is one reason for having it 'adult only'. What do you all think?
Ok, now it is Dad on the computer. We have done a preliminary calculation one what it would take for us to rent 7 two bedroom apartments at Midway Utah. That is just across the valley from Isabelle's home. If we did that, we could house 6 people in each apartment. total 42 people. I do believe that we would be blessed if we had that many be able to come. Now, if this was scheduled on the last week-end in June 2009. I do believe many could make it if they tried. The cost for housing would be minimal as we would use all of the vacation credits we have been saving. Each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen, so we would be able to prepare plenty of meals at no greater cost than what you would spend at home. We could pool our grocery money and be able to eat well if we fixed our own meals. I just used Midway as an example, as it is the closest and most central of all the Worldmark resorts to all of our children. There are other resorts, such as at Wolf Creek in Utah up above Ogden. Wolf Creek has more facilities, but does cost more and we could not have 7 apartments but only six. Still Midway is very nice and there are many things to see and do that are close by, and travel would not be as big a problem for some. If each of us would contribute a set amount to average out the cost of travel for everyone, that would be fair. Those travel who the furtherest would have assistance on an equal basis from those traveling the least. With Brian's passes, and our Worldmark membership I do believe the cost of a three day week end reunion could be kept to a real minimum. More details could be worked out in the future. We can book reservations now for June 2009. What does everyone think about this now. Love Dad As for me, I would divide the price of the rental by so many people and go from there. We have 3 years of credits (abt $1560 worth that we have already paid) to put towards the rental and the rest would be rented to get the apartments necessary for the whole family. It would be nicer than the Lodge for sure. I think that Dad had a good idea. Now, what do you think? Mom
I would enjoy a family reunion. I am willing to go to Georgia and that it would be fun, but I wasn't going to bring all of my family, just myself. The Utah idea would work for my whole family attend, and at that point, I may be down to 2 kids.
Well....here I am everyone! I am making my dayview blog post. Just to make you feel better Brian....I thought the reunion next year was going to be in GA and I was planning on that. The change in venue surprized me. Like Fabienne though, I wasn't sure who of my family would be accompanying me.
Even if we do it in Midway, a June date as dad suggests might prove incovinient for us. Jonathan comes home from his mission next summer on August 23. All our plans will be based on that. We haven't decided if we will have him come home to Austin first, or directly to Utah where he will start school a week later. We also intend to be taking Elise out to school at that time. I think only one trip to Utah is all we can afford for the summer. So if we have a family reunion at the end of June we might not make it. We aren't even sure we will even be stateside then. We were considering a shortened trip home next summer due to money and we were planning that in July and August. My kids don't even get out of school until the 3rd week of June. Our trip home next summer will not be goverment funded....it will all be on our dime. All five of us....so you can see, it may be a very expensive summer for us...and we have to divy up money to put kids in school too. Yikes! The thought of all that is making me ill! So I suggest you make what ever plans you need to, and if we are able to come, we will, and if we can't, we won't. If you make it the 2nd or 3rd week of August, the possibility that we will be there is a lot greater, but don't plan it around us! Just go with the majority need. Teresa
Francoise had a good idea for a cruise in about 3 years. It would be the most relaxing vacation ever with entertainment and delicious food..... Having been on a cruise, we know how much fun and relaxing it is. Some are not very expensive. We would enjoy it and make memories. What do you think?

The Midway Resort sounds great.

I vote for the cruise in about 3 years too.
