Don't know if you heard that there was a pretty good size earthquake in Los Angeles today. Emily was 30 minutes from the epicenter and had her first ride. She was at work and is fine. Personally, I hate earthquakes. They really freak me out!
I've never been in a big one, but when I lived in Japan, small tremors were common. In Utah, there are newspaper articles every spring about how the Wasatch Mtn. range is overdue, but I haven't felt any tremors in my many years in Utah. I experienced a Typhoon or two in Japan.
The worst I have experienced is an F1 Tornado on May 20, 2008 that caused $16,000.00 damage to our home and yard. I felt a small one in Ecuador once but that is it. I guess Emily is the big winner so far.
I was in LA when the Whittier earthquake hit in 1987. It was a 6.0 and scared me big time. Stuff was falling all around and I was freaked out for months.
We had 3 earthquakes in Peru. In Lima was the biggest one and some buildings were damaged. In Tarma, all that worked at the hospital were on the street but the patients were still inside...In Ica, it was a good one too. We also had a small one in St.George. It happened at bedtime, and the funny thing there was that instead of doing what Dad did and lay besides the bed I got up to grab my 72-hour bag, came back into the room to ask Dad "Now, what do I do?" By that time the shakes had stopped..... LOL
