Eeee Gadddss! The Unions are coming!

So now the unions have instructed their own to show up at the town hall meetings to counter
'the mobs' and 'express' support for the hc reform (even though not all aspects of it please them). Should be fun. Having attended Democratic conventions here in SLC where the gay caucus was at odds with labor, I know how daunting they can be, they aren't afraid to play to hardball.

I don't know why the unions are so concerned. They already have great health care benefits. They are probably being egged on by union bosses who care more about politics than the needs of their members.

Nevertheless, I get the sense that we are approaching a tipping point. Will public dissatisfaction reach the point of no return and permanently damage Obama and the Dems? Or will Obama and the Dems be able to push back and keep the majority of the public on their side? It's hard to tell right now.

It is a scratch my back and I will scratch yours type thing. The union community had its back scratched by the auto bailouts and so the union community owes the administration some support. It may not be the exact same unions but it is the union community.

It is true that unions do have excellent health care contracts, but that is not to say that they do not care about certain principles. They do. Remember that their birth was during the rise of socialist and communist ideas. Those ideas for the broader society still animate them at some level.

We may well be ambling toward a tipping point, however, I believe that those who are the most upset, the most activist, the most boisterous are those, for the most part, who did not vote for Obama in the first place. I would be interested to know the percentages of defections from those who voted for Obama.

Otherwise, I am sure that you are both absolutely right. It is the union closing ranks and paying back.
That is a big par to union mentality! Solidarity!
