The magazine Israel Today reports this week that a Muslim cleric has issued a fatwa urging the murder of the Disney mascot, "whom he characterized as an agent of Satan sent to corrupt young minds." "On Tuesday, another Saudi cleric, Sheik Mohammed Munajjid, told a religious website that the cartoon character Mickey Mouse should be killed because under Islamic law, rats and mice are considered "repulsive" and to be "soldiers of Satan."
"For children they’ve become something great and beloved. Like this Mickey Mouse, who is seen as a great figure, even though under Islamic law, Mickey Mouse should be killed," said Munajjid.
Ok.....It's not enough to put a death order Americans....let's get their Disney mascot too. Poor Mickey has to go into hiding! literaly, how can Disney risk letting Mickey Mouse out to greet his fans knowing some lunatic might make an attempt on whom ever's life is under that suit! He's going to need armed body guards.
I try to be tolerant...but I just don't know the limit of my tolerance if they take out Mickey!

Please don't get me started on Islam. I do not try to bridle my disgust in private conversations. At school where I may or may not have Muslims in class, I must be very circumspect.
The important thing for LDS people to hold in their minds is that Islam declares unequivocally that the last great prophet is Mohammed, that there will be no others. Joseph Smith and all subsequent LDS prophets are officially frauds as declared by their dogma. There is no middle ground in this arena.
According to them, you are flat out wrong and misguided regardless of what you think of Mickey.
Interesting to note that, to my knowledge, no mission fields are open in any Muslim theocracy.
Are there missionaries in Indonesia? In any northern African countries?
My response is a little more simplistic. I say have Mickey wear a seashell bra and the terrorists will mistake him for Ariel the mermaid. The costume with keep him safe.
They would be ok with a Mermaid, but not Americans or Mickey? NOT! Ariel shows too much skin for their liking. She'd be taken out as quickly as Mickey. They probably have a long hit list of Disney characters. They are probably stumped by Goofey though! I would guess that Goofey might be safe.
Doug I too have to bridle my disgust when it comes to this subject out respect for trying to be tolerant. But I have found that there are people in the world who also have a hard time when it comes to those mormons who also beleive some strange stories and who are way to strick. I'll admit if you don't understand a culture and their traditions it is harder to be tolerant.
I beleive that the Islamic cleric are the least tolerant of human kind. People tell us to be tolerant of them and their religion, but they aren't even close to demonstrating tolerance for any one that doesn't follow their beleifs. They want us all dead! It drives me crazy!
I do find that I am less and less tolerant as I age. I used to just go with the flow on just about any thing when I was young and uninformed. Now that I am older, and have more interest in being informed, I am less tolerant of idioacracy. (did I just make up a word or does that word exist?) Well, you get my point.
Doug, I beleive that you are right that there are no missions open in most Muslim countries, with the acception of some Asian countries like the Phillipeans and Malaysia. I also know from experience that the church will carefully decline baptising Muslims even if they want baptism elsewhere in the world. We know a couple that wanted to be baptized but because they were Muslims and they were from the middle east, the church told them that they could not be baptized right now for their own safety. It goes beyond families just disowning them, it has everything to do with death threats and the like against them. Also,I am sure the church doesn't want publicity that an angry Muslim cleric might thrust upon them if they found out we were baptizing one of their own.
The church is prohibited from proselyting in Israel as well, I might add, but one difference is that being baptized as a Jew does not come with the same consequences as being baptized as a Muslim.
Also, I think the Philippines has many Muslins, but as a whole, I don't think they are considered to be a Muslim country. Also also, the country of Jordan has organized branches which meet every Sunday.
Probably so Alan, but I'll bet they still don't proselyte there, and most of those that do attend the branches are probably xpats and not many locals. For that matter they have branches in Saudi Arabia too. I am not informed on the details of their meetings, but apparently they are less formal, so as to not look to be too organized and structured. It's very low profile.
Very interesting. Organized branches in Jordan doesn't surprise me too much because I know that other Christian denominations have populations there.
Saudi Arabia does surprise me. I imagine that they are ex-pats and perhaps a very few converts converted elsewhere. It's just too dangerous there. Islam declares that the penalty for leaving the religion is death. This dates back to the earliest days when in Arabia tribalism was the why of living and to leave the tribe was nearly impossible. That is one of the core problems with Islam, it has thus far been unable to allow introspection, self-criticism, and thus any move to modern positions moderating the crazy fundamentals of the beginnings.
