Okay,
Explain this to me....BYU is rated 7th and 8th in USA and AP Polls respectively last week. This week we win as does USC and Texas Tech, all decisively against nonrated teams and yet BYU is the only one of the three to slip in the polls. You can't tell me it is because of the schedules because they all played nonrated teams this past week and trounsed them. So how does BYU get pushed down if we are 5-0 and USC (3-1) gets promoted above us in the AP Poll!

First, BYU played badly most of the game, and especially in the fourth quarter.
Second, the major conferences are going to get all the love. Its built into the psyche of the voters.
Third, it's likely USC is better than BYU.
I partly blame Mendenhall for the slip up in the polls. I understand that he is building his team by giving his reserves experience late in games when we have a huge lead. However, we probably would not have fallen had we kept our shutout streak in tack. Giving up 14 against USU really hurt. USC to give up 10 to #23 Oregon doesn't hurt as much as giving up 14 to USU. K-State is no slouch either and for Texas Tech to give up 28 to them still doesn't hurt as much as BYU giving up 14 to USU. We really needed to put up a big fat 0 on defense again. At this point, BYU needs to gain respect by continuing to blank people if possible and run up scores to gain national respect. Remember that polsters vote by scores many times because they simply don't see the games. So, the second half of a season means that final scores do matter.
BYU will not play for the national championship.
The important thing is to go to a BCS bowl and trounce the oppostion. That will open the door for future years. The important thing is to not lose this year.
They would have to finish one or two at the end of the year to play for the national championship. That is just not going to happen.
